Privacy Policy
Verse was built on a simple rule: your walk with God is not a data source. This page explains, plainly, what stays on your device and the few things that don’t — and why.
The short version
Your Bible reading, your favorites, your journal, your streak, your settings, and the keyboard’s screenshot suggestions all live entirely on your device. We never see them, store them on a server, or send them anywhere. The only things that can leave your device are anonymous app-usage analytics, the purchase and device information Apple and our service providers need to process a subscription and measure app performance, and — only if you allow it when asked — ad attribution data used to measure how our marketing is performing. None of that includes anything about what you read, saved, or wrote, and none of it is linked back to your identity.
What stays on your device
These are stored locally (and, where noted, synced only to your own paired Apple Watch — never to us):
- Your reading history, saved and favorited verses, and streak
- Any notes, journal entries, or reminders you create
- Your selected theme, font, and app icon preferences
- Favorites and settings shared with your own Apple Watch, over Apple’s on-device WatchConnectivity framework — this never passes through our servers or anyone else’s
The keyboard’s screenshot suggestions
With your permission, the Verse keyboard looks for a screenshot you’ve just taken and suggests a verse that fits what’s in it. That analysis — reading the image and recognizing its text — happens entirely on your device using Apple’s on-device Vision framework. The screenshot, and any text recognized in it, is never uploaded, transmitted, or seen by us. You can turn this off at any time in Settings.
What does leave your device, and why
A few things, none of which touch your reading content:
- Anonymous usage analytics. We use PostHog and an app-generated identifier to understand which features people use — things like app opens and screen views — so we can improve Verse. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or reading content, and the data is never sold.
- Purchase processing. If you subscribe to Verse Pro, Apple processes your payment directly — we never see your card details. We use RevenueCat to validate your purchase and manage your subscription entitlement, which involves sharing your purchase history with RevenueCat under an anonymous identifier generated for your install. This is used only to confirm what you’re entitled to, not to build a profile of you.
- Ad attribution — only with your permission. The first time you open Verse, iOS will ask whether you want to allow tracking. If you allow it, we use an attribution partner, AppsFlyer, which uses your device’s identifier to tell which ad campaign led to your install, and that identifier may be shared with the advertising networks running that campaign (for example Meta, Google, or TikTok) so we can measure whether our marketing is working. This is limited to install and campaign attribution — never your reading, notes, favorites, or anything you do inside the app. If you decline, none of this happens and Verse works identically either way.
Your tracking choice
Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt is the only way ad attribution data is ever collected — we never work around it. You can change your answer at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking on your device, and Verse will respect whatever you choose there going forward.
What we don’t do
- No account or sign-up is required to use Verse
- No ads shown inside the app, ever
- No selling or renting of any data, ever
- No location, contacts, or microphone access
Children’s privacy
Verse does not knowingly collect information from children. Because the app collects no personal reading data in the first place, there is nothing of that kind to collect from anyone, regardless of age.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. We won’t make a change that reduces these protections without making it clear here first.
